Hot Work Card training gives you the Hot Work Card issued by SPEK (the Finnish National Rescue Association), valid for five years. The card is required for anyone who performs, supervises, or issues permits for hot work at a temporary hot work site. This course is held in English and includes both theory and a hands-on extinguishing exercise.

Hot work training and hot work training for the roofing and waterproofing industry were combined on 1 January 2016, so a single qualification covers both.
The Hot Work Card, issued by SPEK, is valid for five years from the date you pass the course. It is also valid in Norway and Denmark, and cards issued in those countries are valid in Finland. Note that Sweden renewed its own hot work training in 2023, so Hot Work Cards issued in Finland after 1 July 2023 are no longer valid in Sweden, and vice versa.
In Finland, the Hot Work Committee — appointed by SPEK’s board — advises that hot work cards issued by the fire prevention associations of Norway and Denmark should be honored for their full validity period, as long as they were completed on or before 31 December 2025. For cards from these Nordic fire prevention organizations issued after that date, the Committee’s guidance is not to extend the same recognition.

Anyone performing hot work or issuing hot work permits at a temporary hot work site — for example welding, cutting, or grinding. A hot work guard is expected to have safety training appropriate to the task, but only needs a Hot Work Card if the client’s requirements or their insurer’s loss-prevention instructions call for it.

Yes, in Norway and Denmark. It is no longer valid in Sweden for cards issued after 1 July 2023, and Swedish cards are likewise no longer valid in Finland.
The full course takes approximately 7–8 hours, including the theory session, the practical extinguishing exercise, and the final written exam — all in one day.
Both. Your mobile card becomes available as soon as the trainer reports your details to SPEK, typically right after the course. A physical plastic card is also included and is usually delivered by post within a couple of weeks.
If you have never held a Hot Work Card, or your previous card has expired, you need to attend this full basic course. If your card is still valid, a shorter refresher course is available instead.
Yes. We also offer this training in Finnish, and customized courses can be arranged in other languages on request for company bookings.
That’s not a problem. If the written exam feels difficult because of a learning difficulty, dyslexia, or language, let the trainer know privately on the training day — the trainer can go through the exam with you orally instead.
