Online certificate of attendance – a combination of online and in-person training

The online work permit card is a refresher course, which can be completed as a combination of online and classroom teaching. The Hot Work Certificate can be completed partly online if the participant a previously obtained Hot Work Certificate is still valid.

If you do not have a valid Hot Work Certificate, choose Hot Work Certificate classroom training in the location you prefer from our calendar. 

After completing the Hot Work Certificate training, you are entitled to The Finnish Central Organization for Emergency Rescue (SPEK) to the Hot Work Certificate issued by it.

Who is the Tulityökortti refresher course suitable for?

The overtime refresher training is for participants who already have a completed and valid Overtime Card.

The combination of distance and in-person training is suitable for repeating the Tulityökortti course if you want to complete the morning training session at your own pace at a time that suits you. the afternoon part must be completed in classroom training.

Registration for the Hot Work Certificate refresher training

Choose the location and date that suits you from the calendar displayed on the right side of this page. You can branch out the selection from the drop-down menu to explore the offerings from different regions.

After choosing, the date of the training, the training locations, and the number of available places will open under the calendar. 

Click on the course seat name (for example, “ABC Palokka”), after which you can fill in the participant details. You can add more participants at the same time if necessary.

“From the ”Add to cart” button, you can add participants to the training and then proceed to checkout. On the checkout page, you can fill in billing information, payment methods, and, if desired, the card’s shipping address (if you want it to be delivered to a different address than the billing address).

After registering for the course, the participant will receive a link and login credentials to the online platform in an email no later than the next business day.

Delivery of the refresher training

A participant in the normal morning classroom session completes independently as an online course at a time convenient for him. 

However, the online part of the training must be completed before attending the afternoon classroom session.

For the online course, you need a computer or mobile device and an internet connection.

The classroom part is held together with the hot work training from 11:30 to 16:00.

The purpose of the course

The purpose of the fire safety course is to increase the course participant’s knowledge of what matters to be considered before starting the fire work, during the fire work, and after the fire work has been completed. 

Who needs a Hot Work Certificate?

When working at a temporary hot work site, the hot worker must have a valid Hot Work Certificate. 

The fire watch is required to have the safety training the work requires, and a valid Hot Work Certificate is recommended. 

The person who issues the hot work permit must also have a valid Hot Work Certificate.

Which jobs are fireside jobs?

Work that involves the generation of sparks or the use of flame or heat that creates a fire hazard is considered as firework work. These work include gas and arc welding that generates sparks, flame and arc cutting, torch cutting and metal grinding.

Working with a gas burner, other open flame devices, a hot air blower, or other similar devices that produce strong heat radiation is also considered a type of work.

Validity of the Hot Work Certificate

The Hot Work Certificate issued by SPEK is valid for five (5) years from the month in which it was completed.

The Hot Work Certificate is also valid in Norway and Denmark.

The price of the hot work course includes

Hot work booklet (in Finnish and, if needed, in plain language or another language to support the training) and Hot Work Certificates (plastic and mobile card).

Hot Work Certificate mobile card You will be able to use it immediately after the training, when the trainer has provided the participants' details to SPEK.

Purchasing a renewal course for a work permit for another person

You can also buy a hot work course for another person. Add the participant's details under the selected training. 

You can register multiple people at once or register multiple people for different days or different training sessions.

Delivery of the Hot Work Certificate

The physical Hot Work Certificate card will be delivered to the delivery address you gave us within about 3 weeks of completing the course.

You can download the electronic Hot Work Certificate to your phone immediately after completing the training.

Electronic Hot Work Certificate

After completing the Hot Work Certificate refresher training, you can download Hot Work Certificate mobile card. The electronic Hot Work Certificate contains the same information as the physical card. Read the instructions, how to get the mobile card activated.

What if the Hot Work Certificate is lost?

You can order a new card to replace a lost Hot Work Certificate From SPEK's online store.

What is the Hot Work Certificate refresher training?

How long is the Hot Work Certificate valid after renewal?

Will I receive a physical card after the training?

Yes — unlike the Occupational Safety Card, the Fire Safety Card is still delivered by mail in a plastic card, typically within 2–3 weeks after the approved completion of the work. What do I need to do when registering for the refresher training?

You will need the number and the validity period of your current, valid residence permit — these will be checked during registration to ensure your right to participate.

Is the Hot Work Certificate also valid abroad?

Yes, partly. The work permit obtained in Finland is also valid in Norway and Denmark. However, the situation has changed in Sweden: starting July 2023, Sweden’s own work permit training was updated, and the work permit obtained in Finland is no longer valid in Sweden, and the work permit obtained in Sweden is no longer valid in Finland.

Is there training available in languages other than Finnish?

Yes, Hot Work Certificate courses are held not only in Finland but also in English, in Estonian, in Russian, In German, Romanian, and Chinese.

What if I have learning difficulties or am of immigrant background — can I still take the test?

Yes, you can. If a written test feels challenging due to, for example, learning difficulties, dyslexia, or language skills, you can discuss the matter with the trainer in private during a face-to-face teaching day — the trainer can then take the test with you orally. The test can also be taken in a different language.

The Hot Work Certificate and the Occupational Safety Card are two different qualifications for different purposes. Occupational Safety Card is a sector-independent general occupational safety qualification, whereas entry work permit The qualification awarded by SPEK is required for especially skilled workers (e.g. welding, cutting, grinding) or supervisors. On many construction sites, both cards are required depending on the job duties.
